Twenty-one years old. A voice that sounds 60. And absolutely no respect for musical boundaries.
Meet Frank Mastra, a 21-year-old singer-songwriter who apparently skipped several decades of musical development and went straight to the good stuff.
Raised in the little seaside town of Orient, New York, Mastra grew up surrounded by music, oysters (his family farms them), and the sounds of Ray Charles, Bill Withers, Joe Cocker, and Stevie Wonder.
He started playing piano at three, eventually picked up the saxophone, and began posting soulful covers online. Millions of views later, Mercury Records came calling. He’s now making music in Nashville.
His debut EP, Bitter End, released September 18, 2026, is a wonderfully difficult thing to categorize. A little Americana, a generous helping of soul, some blues, and the sort of vocals that make you wonder whether his birth certificate contains a clerical error.
KRML is playing “Hangin’ On” and you might like “Show Me How.”
It’s the kind of genre-defying music we love discovering at KRML. Real instruments, real emotion, and enough personality to remind us why human-curated radio still matters.
Frank Mastra may be new to the scene, but something tells us we’ll be hearing a lot more from him.
And yes, we’re mildly annoyed that he’s only 21.
